Driving down the road, a lineman is on a bucket truck fixing a telephone pole. This sparked a curiosity in my mind on how they do their job without getting hurt. Linemen work on, maintain, and build electrical power systems. The people working can be be electrocuted, blown-up, catch fire, fall off, and more. These people don’t get a lot of recognition in the news, but we would be lost without them. There are many different dangerous jobs, being a lineman is definitely one of them. Many people are injured or die on this job, but they are very needed. Linemen are men and women who fix/build electrical systems. Their job is very dangerous because they are dealing with electricity and sometimes heights. Being a lineman is such a special profession, but it is also very dangerous. This little excerpt from the article shows just how dangerous the job is. The man’s coworkers had to use fire extinguishers to stop him from turning to ash. The article also says that 80% of his body was burned. Electricity is so dangerous to deal with, and things can go lethal quickly. Linemen are very helpful after storms, accidents, and much more. In the article it said, “In Kentucky, LG&E and KU sent 190 crew members to assist with this effort.”(Moore). This quote gives and example of how many linemen are needed after natural disasters. As I uncover more research about linemen and their stories, the job seems more risky. Linemen have to work in some extreme situations, and deal with fixing something.
