This is the first of many entries in this little red book. I hope the words I record in its pages stand out in the way that this journal did when I first came upon it. It was one of those dreadful, fourteen-hour workdays in which I was tasked with cutting the excess thread of the shirtwaists. I’d never been particularly good at sewing, so I was stationed with the other young and inexperienced girls.
One day Timmy found beans that were magic, they jumped all over the place. He tried to plant one, but it just popped out of the ground, and jumped right into his mouth, and he accidentally swallowed it. The next day he turned white sparkly the next day his arms and legs fell off he felt very weird and was freaking out, and the next day after that he formed into a complete bean, he felt scared and frightened. Then he couldn’t talk or stand he was a bean.
The cut on Nicole 's throat was so deep that it nicked her vertebra C3, the portion of the spine that supports the neck. Her windpipe and larynx were clearly seen, and the 2 carotid arteries severed, along with 1 jugular artery and the other jugular cut and left dangling by a thread. The windpipe and larynx consists of several muscles and cartilage. It is difficult to even begin to tear cartilage due to its flexibility, stiffness, and rigidity. In order to have cut through the windpipe, it would have been difficult enough.

When I told my dad he looked at me like I was a joke and laughed.
It was a rainy, gloomy afternoon, my sister and I were watching TV when we heard my parents talking to their friend about moving to Florida. My sister and I looked at each other with confused faces and asked each other if we are moving. Of course, we were clueless because my parents did not mention anything about moving to us. We asked my parents if we are moving and they said yes we are going to be moving to Florida. When my sister and I heard Florida, the first thing we thought was we are going to die from a tornado, because we thought Florida had a lot of hurricanes, earthquakes, and natural disasters.
Hosting Thanksgiving was always a tradition at my house. We would always have my family down at my house every year for as far back as I can remember. That is, until this year. This year, my family and I went down to South Carolina for Thanksgiving. It was a blast!
“Sam, that was months ago. You know my schedule.” You know my schedule. I was really getting sick of that response. Every time I asked something from Dad -which seemed to be all the time these days because of mom’s lack of leaving the house- he would blow me off with that same old reply: “You know my schedule.”
Upon my return, I expected to resume going to the school’s campus and only be half online. This wasn’t what happened, however. “We live too far away now. I can’t drive you so far every day.” My mom had said when I asked her about my returning to school.
The sun is just coming up lighting the deserted city and casting ominous shadows in the littered streets. Pip doesn’t know what city, somewhere in Arizona or New Mexico. She stopped paying attention to state signs a long time ago, having no need to know where she is. Cities make her nervous, and she usually tries to avoid them, but she’s out of food. A Walmart begins to take shape in the distance as she creeps along the sidewalk.
Chicxulub, a short story by T. Coraghessan Boyle, is about a couple’s journey through the “death” of their seventeen year old daughter. The main character and father of the teenage girl in the car accident relates his knowledge of meteors and asteroids to describe his and his wife’s adventure through their own home and hospital. He also relates the death of “his daughter” to the end of the world. This is why I think the author’s intended theme for Chicxulub is that “losing someone you love is worse than death itself”. Towards the beginning of the story the couple first receive a phone call giving little information concerning the fate of their daughter except that she has been struck by a car.
I looked down at my schedule 3rd period,English 1, Franklin, Alex, Rm.155. I walked down the hallway. I looked up and saw room 155. I opened the door, there was rap music playing. I was a little surprised, I didn’t expect a language arts teacher to be playing rap music.
In a passage, when a narrator is personally involved in an event it is more effective for the story being told. First when the narrator is more personally involved in a story it gives the reader more of a chance to figure out the other side of the story. Also, it allows the reader to see the narrator's point of view of the event or story happening. A narrator being involved with the story makes it much better.
A Very Short Story Ernest Hemingway is considered one of the most significant fiction writers of the 20th century. He is famous for his specific style of writing, the so called iceberg theory, which is clearly seen in his short stories and novels. Undoubtedly the unique thing that makes his short stories so special is the fact that after you read them you get the main idea but there are many things that remain unspoken or have a deeper meaning. You have to reread the text and use your imagination to get the whole picture of the text.
