Anne Sullivan arrived at the Keller house wanting to know if Helen was a sweet and calm child. When she saw Helen, she wanted to see if they would connect, but Helen did not seem to like her. Helen would push her away and she seemed very angry and frustrated toward her, even more than she normally was towards her family. That didn't make Annie want to teach her any less. Helen learned the word "cake", which didn't take her as long to learn as doll did. Every time Helen would react positively and spelling the words back into Annie's hands, she would get a piece of cake from Annie as a reward. Even though Helen did learn those words, she wasn't cooperative at all and it wasn't easy for Annie. But Annie did teach Helen those two words in less than forty-eight hours. Next, Helen was taught the word ink and pen. Annie would make Helen feel the object and then spell it out to her in her hand. After Annie had spelled the word pen in Helen's hand multiple times, tempered Helen stabbed Annie with the pen and was having one of her attacks. Helen's mother gave her candy to calm her down, as always. This was the first time Annie had seen that she would give Helen candy. The captain only gave her two weeks to keep Helen there with her. Helen learned so many words there with Annie. Annie wanted more time there with her, but Helen's parents did not allow it at first. They ended up letting Annie take Helen for a little longer, and when she came back, she knew many words like "teacher" and "mother and she would try to talk. Helen did not like Annie at first, but they ended up bonding and becoming the best of friends.
