This passage from Sherwood Anderson’s short story “Hands” written in 1919, takes place at the middle of the story, when Wing Biddlebaum confronts George about being easily influenced by other people. It is an important part of the short story because it reveals how Wing’s hands represent his voice as well as power, and by restraining them, he is withholding his thoughts and strength.
