Penobscot History: The Life and Traditions of the Red Man Joseph Nicolar wrote The Life and Traditions of the Red Man in 1892 as a summarization of his people and used their stories to educate others in the ways of their culture. Nicolar was a political leader and elder of the Penobscot tribe in Maine in the late 1800s. He collected the stories passed down from his ancestors and published them in a book for all to read. Like many other natives the Penobscots also had their own story of creation. This was one of the tales that composed Nicolar’s book, the story of Klose-kur-beh, the first man on earth or “the man from nothing” and the first mother's sacrifice.

In “The Red-Headed League,” several clues helped Mr. Holmes find out what crime was being contemplated and when the crime was going to be committed. Throughout the story, the criminals leave clues like where their crime was planned to take place, how they would proceed with the crime, and who would be partaking in the event. There were five specific clues that pointed to what crime was being contemplated in “The Red-Headed League.” The Red-Headed League was, in fact, the first clue that helped solve this mystery. The whole purpose of the Red-Headed League was to distract the pawnbroker from their operation.
The Scarlet Ibis and Sucker are two amazing short stories, you can put them in comparison and see that they have numerous similarities and differences. In these stories the two main characters never truly felt like they were part of their family. They were emotionally abused by their brothers which made them continuously feel like they didn't belong. In the end it drove these characters Doodle and Sucker to their death, or put a huge impact to their personalities. With Donald Trump being the Republican nominee for the presidential election I believe Diane Guerrero’s story can be connected to many aspects of today’s society. The racist comments that Donald Trump has said about Mexicans and how he says he wants to build a wall to stop people coming to the U.S is what evokes this feeling of fear into undocumented families everyday. This fear is the same fear that Diane went through everyday not knowing whether her family was going to be safe from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I wanted to know a bit more about Diane Guerrero’s life and how life was for her when her parents were deported to Columbia and I found an article named Op-Ed ‘ Orange is the New Black’ actress: My parents were deported , which mentions how Diane was basically by herself when her parents were deported.
The main idea of “The Charmer” is the changing perspective the protagonist Winifred has on the tragedies befallen on her family. Family conflict is a predominant theme in the story and all members of her family directly face it. The narrator uses her elder brother Zach’s smothered childhood, charming personality and rebellious nature to create internal family conflict. The narrator begins her story as a young girl who, along with her two sisters and mother, unconditionally serves Zach as his obedient slaves.

“Clover” Essay The passage “Clover” talks about a teacher named Graham, who tells his classroom stories about his home-renovation. Graham has unique qualities at school and at home, and his class has special reactions to his stories. This story takes place in a classroom of girls and their male teacher Mr. Graham Koglin. Graham seems to be childish like the children even though he is the teacher, “Graham waited for the ritual to feather away and for the girls to take out their novels and note-books before he cleared his throat and pointed to his hair, which a couple of girls had already noticed.” The classroom likes to react to Graham and his silliness, “There were smiles, there was the folding of arms across chests, and the lovely gestures of smart and confident young women who appreciated the perquisites that came with being smart and responsible…” Graham’s silly and unique characteristics make the story livelier.

In the passage Sherlock is presented as quite a peculiar and emotionally abnormal character, while the character of Watson is presented as a very loyal friend. The couple talks much, but listens little to each other.
