With unruly dark hair that fell in waves over her face and high cheekbones that caught the light, her bold curled lips, and dark eyes, Selena could be considered striking. However, it was the intensity of her gaze that saved her from being considered pretty. The relationship returned to be a satisfactory one. In time, Richard started coming to see Selena less and, less frequently, as his responsibilities to his job and family increased. He bought a summer cottage where he took his family, whether they wanted to go or not. He took them on trips to Toronto and Disney Land.

Selena took it in stride. She had her job running the affairs of the mine, although lately, she had relied more on Richard to handle the legal aspects. Feeling confined in her father's empty mansion, Selena decided to move her office to a town where she would not be so alone all day. An old Victorian house was remodeled and modernized for Selena to stay when Richard was away on trips.

Selena always returned to her home by the mines when Richard was in town, where they spent time together.
