Niña was having a bad day, if being groped in a convenience store by an entitled white man and having your friend ask you if you “asked for it” can be called as one. What frustrated her the most was that some people still believed in the sick fetishization of the “Submissive Asian Woman” and were surprised to see her stand up for herself. No one ever defended her when perverted men were harassing her. These did not happen very often, but when they did, they usually left Niña feeling angry and hopeless. She felt tremendous rage at how women were constantly objectified by a racist patriarchal society and hopeless at a change ever occurring. The future just seemed bleak to her.

She was not just learning about the past; she is the past. She can see first-hand how segregation had after people of color, particularly Black people. It felt like an anchor had been thrown from her heart, dragging it down. It felt heavier with every beat. This was people’s reality for thousands of years, and continue to be. Now feeling more hopeless than ever, Niña got up from her seat and tugged open the restaurant’s doors. She was extremely delighted to see that she wasn’t in 1931 Alabama, but she also knew she was not back in 2017. Thank you, time travelling, she thought sarcastically. Instead, she was greeted by the most bizarre fashion she had ever seen in her life. It was as if the 1990s fashion came back but with less denim and more varying colors of vinyl fabric. Of course this is the future, Niña concluded with an eye roll. The most surprising thing, however, was was not no one was judging. Everyone seemed to accept the people’s bizarre clothing, including that guy’s wearing a black bodysuit with a short, clear vinyl skirt and a black hem. The man is also wearing 6-inch heels.
