The nursing profession is continually evolving and that means that as a nurse I have to continually seek enhancements and improvements in my avenue in order to be a better nurse. Commitment to the nursing profession demands accountability for building, exhibiting and maintaining clinical competency (Eason, 2010, p. 157). Nurses are responsible for the safety of their patients. That being said, it is imperative that nurses have to continually find ways to enhance their skills in order to provide optimum patient care. My first short-term goal is to achieve my BSN. I only have six classes left and in order to achieve that within a year, I have to take two classes per term.

Belonging to a professional organization can also help in my lifelong professionalism goals. That being said, I will continue to include in my budget the professional organization membership dues in order to maintain my ANA/VSNA membership. I am also considering joining the organization for nursing informatics. There are two organizations that caught my attention: American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) and Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI). I have to choose one organization within a year that could help me fulfill my long-term goal of becoming a nursing informatics specialist.

One of my long-term goals is to become a nursing informatics specialist. My short-term goal that relates to that long-term goal is to attend at least one seminar relating to nursing informatics. A scholarship is one of the ways to finance my education. Right now, I am eligible for a scholarship that Kaplan University offers, which is Every Credit Counts. However, this scholarship is dependent on my GPA. It requires that I have at least a 3.7 cumulative GPA. That being said, I have to make sure that I do good in my classes in order to continually receive this scholarship of $500 per term. So far, I have managed to keep a 4.0 cumulative GPA since I started this journey with Kaplan. Student aid is another way that I could finance my education. This is a loan from the government and is payable after graduation. I have to consider the amount that I need to borrow and can afford to pay later.

Out-of-pocket expenses are expenses that I have to pay out-of-pocket. These could be the amount that are not covered with my scholarship and student aid. Examples are seminars that I plan on attending in the future, home expenses, food, and bills. I plan to include these expenses when considering how to make a budget plan in order to save
