Should an honor student be confined to the same standards that a standard-level student is? No student should have to lower their abilities just because they are not the same as another student. Honor level students should be allowed to thrive and choose the extracurricular activities that apply to them. Extracurricular activity involvement should be left to students and their families, because many students can handle more stress than other students, and they know exactly how much they can handle.
Students need to be capable of their own extracurricular, as it prepares them for college, where no one will hold their hand as they pick their classes and extracurricular activities. In college, students have to decide their activities on their own, and if they have a counselor do it for them in high school, they will not become involved in an activity that truly interests them. It is crucial that students feel comfortable picking out their own classes and extracurricular activities, so they will become more comfortable leaving home to go to college.
Students should not be held to the same standards as someone who can handle more classes and extracurricular activities than they can. There are accelerated students who want to, and can, fill their schedule

If a school randomly selects an extracurricular activity for a student, it may not have anything to do with what they want to do in their life, or simply what they are interested in at the moment. If students are stuck in an activity that they do not like, they will be unhappy for the duration of that particular extracurricular activity. It is unfair to force students to take part in something that they do not have an interest in. Extracurricular activities help students figure out if they want to pursue that field of study in higher education. Students who are active in an activity that the do not enjoy are more likely to go into a career that they do not
