Should the black panthers have remained non violent The black panthers was founded in 1966 by two men, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale to stop police brutality against the black population. They wore leather jackets and would try and stop police brutality in Oakland and other places. At the highest point they had 2,000 members. The Black Panthers were hated in some parts of America, but were also seen as saviors in other parts of America during the 1960 through the 1970’s. The black panthers main focus was to start protecting their 2nd amendment rights. They had a 10 point program that they called out the 2nd amendment in. In 1969 many of the black panthers members were arrested because they were planning on bombing the New York Botanical Gardens and many other stores. They were also planning on assassinating police officers. “The following month on May 21, the slain body of Alex rackley, Black Panther Party member, was discovered in a swamp in Middlefield Connecticut. FBI agents wasted no time and raided the Panthers headquarters searching for evidence.”(The Beginning, Black Panther Protest) Eight of the members of the black panthers were under arrest. The chairman of the Black Panthers, Bobby Seale was arrested on this day. He was charged with multiple things, including kidnapping and murder. If the Black Panthers did not resort to doing these violent acts, they would have still had the eight members that were arrested. The raid that took place after the Police force found this body hurt the Black Panthers very much, they lost the national leader Bobby Seale. Losing this leader impacted the Black Panthers as a whole in a horrible way. Losing the leader was a very impactful loss, this is not just one of the leaders, he was one of the founders of the Black Panthers. Losing a founder of the Black Panthers was a huge loss for many reasons, as a regular member of the Black Panthers, seeing the leader be taken down would have been very discouraging to see.
