Children should be allowed to make their own decisions about what they read. Children know what they are capable of. In addition, they need to develop a love of reading through what they read. Finally, the constitution gives freedom to the press. If the press is allowed to write it children should be allowed to read it. Children should be able to read any books they select because they know what they are capable of. A second grader knows can’t read the Harry Potter series yet just by skimming the book. If young children read books like The Giver, they won’t understand it. They have not learned how individuality is important and how our society adapts to the environment, to interpret the theme. For instance, if children are exposed to all types of books, they will love reading because they have many choices. My ELA teacher said that he loves English because of reading Harry Potter. If he never read Harry Potter, he would not have a job as an English teacher. If children don’t pick out books they enjoy, they never enjoy reading. If they pick out whatever they want, they will be more likely to succeed. If children develop a love of reading, they will do better in writing. It can help them improve in styles and grammar. Children should be able to read all books because the constitution gives freedom to the press. If they can write it, kids can read it. For example, the book The Stupids Step Out shouldn’t be ban because the press has the right to write the word stupid. If they are protected by the constitution to be able to write that, we can read it. The book series Captain Underpants is a book that is still printing and new books are even coming out.
