Should college athletes be paid? You should care about this topic because they put in a ton of work, training and games, while on top of school. That barely gives them enough time to get a job to make money. Today I’m going to try to persuade you on why we should pay college athletes. First off, what I mean by getting paid, I don’t mean $100,000, I’m meaning about $2,000 a semester, for when their season is going on (Hartnett). Offseason they can get a part-time job to get their money. Scholarships don’t buy cleats or extra equipment for the players. They can’t purchase or rent suits for banquets and fundraisers, that the athlete had to go to. Scholarships also don’t cover everything. Athletes will be hungry after working out or researching but the cafeteria will be closed. So they have to go somewhere off of campus and get food by paying with money out of their own pocket (Anderson). College athletes work on their game for about 43.3 hours per week. College athletes are basically working a full time job. Americans work about 40 hours a week for their job. So college athletes are basically working a full time job. I know that the college athletes put in a lot of time into their sports to get so far, and some of them don’t make it to the pros, so they would have put in all that work for just either some playing time to maybe some championships, which is doubtful, to not making any kind of money. I hope you learned about how much time and work they put into their sports to maybe just get to college and maybe pros, but if they only made it to college and they didn’t earn anything from it. Maybe that could change, the NCAA are still kind of in talks about it. I hope I changed your mind or just informed you more about this topic on why we should pay college
