The hottest topic that has been going through college sports is if college athletes should be paid. Some believe for all of what college athletes do they should get some reimbursement for their sacrifices. Also, the amount of money these programs make off these athletes they think they could spare some to the athlete themselves. I have a very strong opinion on this and I believe a college athlete should not be paid. They are given many opportunities. Although, there is something I believe they should get some assistance in.
First off college athletes should not get paid because they are being paid by a free education that not everyone can afford. Most top prestigious universities cost around $65,000 a year. That is $260,000 over four years. Many, would never hesitate to get that free education that would leave them with not even a penny of debt out of college. The Men’s basketball ratings are way higher than those of the Women's basketball ratings which produces less revenue than the men’s. So, should women basketball athletes get paid less just because of their ratings. They still put in the same amount of time, and effort as the men. It’s not their fault that they can not control their ratings or the interest people have in the sport. Also, should athletes that are on teams that aren’t even televised on national television be paid the same as an a football athlete that has their game nationally televised every saturday. Is it fair that those college athletes of smaller schools. Such as, those in Division II and III to get paid less than those of bigger schools although they put in the same amount of time. All of the marketing and fame these great college athletes get usually correlates to get paid by endorsements and their respective professional
