Should College Athletes be Compensated?
As, Cardale Jones of the Ohio State Buckeyes once eloquently stated, “We ain’t come to play school,” perfectly describes the life of a college athlete. They want to make the pro’s and lots don’t care about school. They just want to be paid, but few will ever be. Student athletes just want to make some money, but they can’t. They are being exploited out of tons of money by their colleges, they are being cheated out of an education, and they are missing out on giant perks. All because they cannot be compensated.

To support that, the LA Times states that athletes performing and endorsing products like Under Armor and Nike, but they are not the ones getting money, the top execs are (Plaschke) Why are the athletes, the ones endorsing the product, only receiving a jersey and maybe some clothes, while execs receive millions of dollars. ‘In addition, the LA Times tells the story of UCLA’s shoe and apparel deal with Under Armor (Plaschke). They signed a contract of 280 million dollars with Under Armor giving them money to win gear, but some people will not be getting paid… The athletes.’ Even though the athletes are the ones who got Under Armors attention in the first place, they will not be getting a penny. Lastly, according to UWIRE, “the American collegiate sports industry is currently valued at $8 billion,” but none of this money goes to the hard working athletes (Kronstadt).
