Imagine being in college and having to pay all those expenses, then all of a sudden not having money to pay for food. What would happen? College athletes should be paid because it can help them pay for living expenses, possible injuries, and expenses after graduation. This could really help because when students are in college, they will be able to have the things they need. Athletes would also be able to cover medical expenses due to injury. After graduation, athletes would be able to pay for essentials. Although athletes could have a work study or part time job it could be difficult to fit in their schedule and being paid could make a difference.

According to Lauren Deutsch’s article “Student Athletes Should be Paid” on The Crimson White she says, “Moreover, athletes can, and do, lose scholarships due to injury or other reasons that can affect their ability to play. Four-year athletic scholarships do not exist; instead, they are renewable annually. Thus, an athlete can contribute to his team for three years, find himself injured, and suddenly have no way to pay for his senior year of college. He, of course, will have no sort of salary to fall back on, and he likely will not have had a chance to work a part-time job or internship, due to the intense time commitments during both the season and the off-season. He is essentially out of options. In these cases, conditional scholarships are simply not an adequate substitute for a traditional paycheck.” This proves that student athletes are not getting enough money to make it through college. If the student did have this money, they would be able to seek appropriate medical attention before they lose scholarships and don’t have money to pay for things anymore.
