College Athletes are like Slaves Did you know 400,000 students participated in athletics, but only one of every 25 of those students went on to compete professionally? Even though some people think they should do it for free, college athletes should be paid. College athletes play for free. Some people consider a scholarship a payment, but some schools don't offer much. Some schools only pay for certain things while the players pay for the rest. Some of the biggest schools in the nation Alabama makes up to 200 million dollars each year! The players don't get any of it. They are making money off of them and they get nothing. College athletes should be paid. More than 400,000 NCAA student-athletes-more than ever before-compete in 24 sports every year. The coaches can cut anyone at anytime just like in the NFL or when they go pro. Athletes should get paid so if they get cut, they have some money to live on. A large proportion of money earned from games goes to coaches and administration and the athletes go no pay. College athletes deserve money because of their talents. The athletes often have to miss class for games or practices (Weiss). They spend their free time on school and the rest on football. Standard work week is up to 40 hours. They spend 40 hours doing something productive. During March Madness basketball players could miss up to 2 weeks of class time because of that big tournament. They would have to miss a lot of school work during that big tournament. College athletes spend so much time on homework and practice they wont have anytime to work anywhere.
