College Athletes Should Be Paid
In today’s day, college sports are one of the most popular sources of entertainment. Saying that, everybody besides the players benefit from the entertainment given. First off, these Universities these athletes do not have any time to make any money at any point of the year while playing a Division 1 collegiate sport. Secondly, these athletes bring in millions of dollars in revenue for the entertainment they bring, mainly in football. Next, if the hours these athletes were put in, they would be making a large some less than minimum wage for an average employee. Division one college athletes on scholarship should be getting paid because of the mass amount of money brought into the university by their play, they do not have time to work jobs during their four years at school, and it is indentured servitude.

Although it is illegal, by almost exact definition it is still going on but in a different way, college football. “Indentured servants were men and women who signed a contract (also known as an indenture or a covenant) by which they agreed to work for a certain number of years in exchange for transportation to Virginia and, once they arrived, food, clothing, and shelter.” (Wolfe) College football players sign contracts stating they will stay at a University play football and in return get to live there, and up until recently they did not have an unlimited food plan, which is necessary for these giant humans. Universities get a ton of perks out of these athletes including money and exposure which makes their Universities very popular.
