College Athletes Should Get Paid
According to the article “NCAA Football Coach Salaries in Real-time”, the average pay for college football coaches is two million dollars per season, not including their bonuses (Best Universities 1). Why do the athletes not get a share of the money? College sports provide millions of dollars for schools every year. College athletes should be paid because it would benefit their school, their future career, and their personal life.
First, getting paid to play sports would benefit the athlete’s school. Schools gain money based on the amount of wins. According to Best Colleges, The University of Yale has gained 18 national titles, and the school has about $42,300,000,000 (1). If athletes got paid to play, they would be motivated to try harder, so that they could earn more money. Coaches would also get the opportunity to make a better team. If athletes got paid to play, they would want to try out for teams that earn the most money. Student-athletes need money so that after college they can buy a house and get a job if they decide not to go professional. College athletes are also very prone to injury.
