Imagine having the biggest name in football and going back to your dorm not only tired, but hungry. Many college football players have this feeling. It’s hard to imagine a college football player living in poverty when the player’s team is racking in millions or even billions. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) has strict rules about players receiving incentives and rewards and because of the strict rules many players are hungry and can’t afford to even live, while a valid argument is that players are paid in scholarships; do scholarships pay for food, health essentials or other emergency expenses that may happen? To participate in college athletics is a full time job, many athletes can reside in poverty, and there is enough money to advocate to athletes, the money needs to get used in a correct way to provide athletes compensation. A solution to the problem of college athletes not getting paid could be to split extra bonuses that a coach may receive if a team goes to a bowl game. Another solution could be to already budget out expenses to every player and not a crazy amount, just a bit every month to help supply groceries and other essentials if a player really needs the extra help. Any athlete can also choose to forgo the pay. If teams provided a bit of pay each month to college football players then the players would be well taken care of and wouldn’t have to stress about where the next meal would come from. The idea of pay each month could also to expand to other collegiate athletics beyond football, although; it may be tricky to provide pay to every athlete in every collegiate athletics, it is possible with realignment of expenses at every collegiate
