To what extent, if any, should Dr. Vaji consider Leo’s ethnicity in his deliberations? Would the dilemma be addressed differently if Leo self-identified as non-Hispanic White, Hispanic, on non-Hispanic Black? The following actions by Leo warrant Dr. Vaji deliberation on his ethnicity. In his class, Leo has assumed the role of a minority community representative to the point that he slums the chair and makes angry remarks on fellow classmates. Secondly, the local pub harassment of the African American waitress where he resorts to racial abuses making his case ethnic deliberations. By definition, Hispanic is considered an ethnicity, though it is given that Hispanics can be of any race. This makes standard categorization of Hispanic to be confusing or ambiguous. In this case, Dr. Vaj acts as Leo’s supervisor and teacher for his Spring semester class.
