Should the drinking age be changed to 18? Imagine getting into a car crash with a drunk 18 year old that was legal to drink but decided to drive under the influence. The 18 year old could have been stopped from drinking because it was illegal. Should 18 year olds be allowed to have alcoholic drinks and have it be legal. The minimum drinking age should not be lowered to 18 because it can cause more accidents and keeping it at 21 saves more lives, parents that let teens drink at home are more likely to drink and teens living with a parent that drives under the influence are more likely to drive drunk. First of all, keeping the drinking age at 21 can saves more lives and doesn't cause as many accidents. According to "New Report Shows That Adolescents Are Far More Likely to Drive…,” “The report conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that those 16 and 17 years old living with parents who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol are far more likely to drive under the influence than adolescents whose parents do not drive under the influence.” Therefore, parents that drive under the influence are encouraging their children to drive under the influence.
