The Founding Fathers never intended for most Americans to vote. In fact, the rules that decided who could vote were racist and sexist. When the Electoral College was created in 1787, while major major discrimination was taking place. While the Founding Fathers intentions may have been thought to be good, there is proof that their intentions had a more sinister background. In an article recently published by procon.org, the Founding Fathers never intended very many people to vote because that thought most people weren't qualified. These “unqualified” people include minorities, including slaves, and women, which is irrational. The claims they make are irrelevant because they are hypocritical. For example, one argument may be that the popular vote disregards rural areas. But with a just voting system without the Electoral College, every person’s vote would be weighed the same making everyone equal. Furthermore, the electoral college actually disadvantages urban areas because voters in rural states get more Electoral votes that densely populated states like California. The Electoral College should come to an end because it disregards the popular vote, it was built on racism and sexism, and it creates a power imbalance between electors. Many people may think that the Electoral College helps out voting system. However, people's votes don't count, which creates a false sense of security.
