Euthanasia is only legal in five U.S states and in three countries. Many have debated whether euthanasia should be legalized in more states. Euthanasia, also known as physician-assisted suicide is the painless killing of a patient who is suffering from an untreatable disease, illness or is in an irreversible coma. It wasn’t until recently, in 2016 that the first minor was granted euthanasia. Euthanasia should be legalized across the U.S. First, euthanasia provides a way to relieve extreme pain. Patients who suffer from untreatable illnesses and who are in an irreversible coma suffer day by day. Most patient turn to taking pills painkillers and other drugs to help numb or reduce their pain. Medical bills from surgeries, trying to find treatments and visits to the hospital for medical reasons add up. Sometimes these expenses become too much for a family. In this case patients can choose euthanasia. Drugs for euthanasia cost $75-$100; this being less expensive than medical care. This also saving the family and patients from medical debts. On the other hand, some argue that euthanasia goes against the Hippocratic oath that doctors sworn into. Doctors sworn an oath that doesn’t allow them to kill patients. Doctors are taught to treat their patients to the best of their ability. Therefore, allowing euthanasia will go against doctors training and belief. Due to the fact that euthanasia allows doctors to assist in the killing of terminally ill patients. Although some believe that euthanasia goes against the hippocratic oath, others believes that it’s the patient choice. Some family member of the patient believe since the patient is the one suffering they have the right to choice whether they want euthanasia or not.
