Cyberbullying Do you know that actual definition of cyberbullying? Cyberbullying is sending or posting harmful or cruel text or images using the internet or other digital communication devices such as cell phones. (“Cyberbullying”). Cyberbullying is a huge problem in schools across the nation and we as a country are not doing enough to stop this problem. Federal Laws should be implemented for cyberbullying because the number of students being cyberbullied are increasing rapidly, the side effects of cyberbullying are overwhelming, and different states have different laws for cyberbullying. Some people believe that implementing Federal Laws for cyber bullying would be taking away freedom of speech. They believe that if they can't express freedom of speech in the high school years then when will they ever be able to express it? (“Anti-Cyberbullying Laws”). They are just expressing how they feel and are not intentionally trying to hurt anybody's feelings. National law enforcement leaders estimated in 2006 that more than 13 million children aged 6-17 were victims of cyberbullying. (“Cyberbullying” 11). Having 16 million students admit that they have been cyberbullied sounds horrible so why are they not making a greater effort to stop it? Almost 93% of students in the United States , ages 12-17, use the internet and 38% of teens in high school try to make their social media accounts private from their parents. (“Cyberbullying” 10). If they are making their accounts private from their parents they must be trying to hide something from them.
