Freshmen students should be required to live on campus because freshmen will be able to adapt to their new social environment, they will gain their first steps of independence, and the experience will provide freshmen students an easier transition between high school and college. By living on campus, Clark Atlanta University (CAU) freshmen students will have a greater chance to excel not only academically but also socially. There are many advantages of living on campus that are beneficial to students which can have an impact on their future.
Freshmen students should be required to live on campus in order for them to adapt to their new social environment. CAU, a historical black college, has a great social environment with students from all walks of life whom are from different locations all around the world. According to www.americanprogress.org on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, Sophia Kerby stated “Learning with people from a variety of backgrounds encourages collaboration and fosters innovation, thereby benefiting all students”. Living on campus is the first step of independence because students are able to live on their own, make their own decisions, and be away from their parents. Most freshmen students believe that renting an apartment freshman year would be ideal but they are mistaken. Students will have to acquire employment, pay rent and utilities, and have reliable transportation to school if they rent an apartment. It can be stressful for anyone, especially for a full time college student. If freshmen students are required to live on campus they do not have to worry about paying for rent and other bills because it is already embedded in the tuition. Freshmen students whom live on campus have the advantage of independence in a non-stressful way which is beneficial to
