In the article titled Face-off on the playing field By, Judith B. Stamper explains girls have their own story of support or discrimination, success also the debate of girls be allowed to compete on boys’ sports team. First, the writer Title IX explains female athletes are been treated second-class for long enough and should pass of inequalities and biases of girls. The writer also clarifies that girls doing sports make them healthier, physically, and emotionally. Other girls that don’t play sports are less likely to use of drugs. In addition, she notes a former Stanford University basketball player Mariah says, strength and independence of things girls learn from sports, the opportunities that are changing women.
In colleges the amount men and women on sport teams has to be proportional with the amount of men and women at a school because of the Title IX. But there are some sports, like wrestling and other men sports like men's gymnastics or swimming, where there are a lot more men than women are on a team. Which leaves two ways to fix that problem; 1. Get more women on the team, which may require a lot of money 2. Make some of the men leave the team.
During the dedication ceremony on November 19th 1963, Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most famous speeches today. Lincoln gave the short speech “Gettysburg Address” to dedicate land to any fallen soldiers, calling it the Soldier’s National Cemetery. He wanted to remind the listeners what they were fighting for, and to give a definite intended audience. The American Civil War started 1861, when southern states seceded from the Union to continue practicing slavery.
Women should absolutely have the same equal right that men have in the NHL because they have the same skill set as men, the are only separated by gender, and the women should definitely have the same pay as men because gender is non essential. On one side of the debate people claim that girls would get hurt in the NHL but that is not a proven fact. All though there have been more concussions that have ended careers in the NWHL then there have been in the NHL. Women should get paid as much as men is because men play men and women play women, they both have the same skill set.
Writes “Often cited are cuts of men’s sports programs to make room for more women’s teams under the mandate of Title IX.” Barbara Sheehan points out that because of Title IX, guys are having to sit in the “sidelines” because their team is getting cut. A simple solution for this in directly in the law. “ The federal courts of appeals uniformly have rejected legal challenges to Title IX—holding that Title IX in no way requires schools to cut men’s teams, but that schools may choose to structure their athletics programs however they wish as long as they treat men and women equally.” (Sports)
Sports have always been a male dominate sport, especially in schools. It took many years of schooling and fighting for females to be able to participate in sports and have equal education opportunities. “The passage of Title IX, the 1972 Education Amendments to the Civil Rights Act, expanded high school athletic opportunities to include girls, revolutionizing mass sports participation in the United States (Rammell, 2014, pg. 136).” Since the legislation, Title IX was passed, sports offerings for boys and girls has changed. Title IX has created many opportunities for girls and young women today since it began 40 years ago.
Should kids as young as 10 play professional sports with the pros? Kids these days are getting into professional sports when they probably shouldn’t be. Teens are in professional sports but they get hurt or burned out most of the time. Teens should not be allowed to play professional sports, because most kids get burned out at the age of 9 or 10 and kids sometimes have to deal with competitive parents which stresses them out.
This pay difference can discourage the girls that want to become professional athletes. Thus, limiting the sports available for women to play and places to play in. Professional female athletes should be paid the same amount as professional male athletes because women should have equal representation and pay as the men, women are just as successful in sports as the men, and the best players are getting paid by foreign leagues to not
Girls can be like that too, but if the girl wants to play a male dominant sport it is usually because they are in it for the love of the sport not for trying to be popular or to prove that they can do something. So it is clear that although Girls health issues with playing tackle football with guys, girls should be allowed to play tackle football with guys for two main reasons. First, Girls can be as good if not better at playing tackle football. But most importantly, Girls can do anything guys can do physically. That’s why girls should be allowed to
“You can’t play with us you’re a GIRL.” Heard that before. People say that boys and girls shouldn’t play the same sports, or coed sorts. I completely disagree with that because, it could really put people down. It never feels good to be discriminated, and that is basically what people do when it comes to the non- coed sports group.
Sports should not be based on whether you are more interested in girls or guys sports; it should be based on which sport brings in more revenue and has the most participation
Gender Inequality in sports is an issue as old as sport itself. I choose this topic because we as a society seem to sweep it under the rug time after time. Women in sports however, try to address the issue only to have it go on deaf ears, leaving them to continue in the sport hoping something will change. Over the last few decades, strides have been made, but he sport remains an institution dominated by men. These women, whether they are in sport or in the business world, want a fair chance to be on the same level as their male counterparts.
To most kids and students, competitive sports are a gateway to blow off some steam or to have fun. To parents, the sports that their children play and the lessons that they teach are an important part of their development and life. Despite what many ‘experts’ would like you to believe, both of these statements are completely true. I believe that kids should be allowed to play competitive sports due to the health benefits, the lessons that they can teach, and as a result of the advanced equipment and rules that are focused on making sports safe, as well as the fact that sports can keep kids out of trouble. One extremely important reason that forces me to take the position that kids should be allowed to compete in competitive sports is the health benefits that children who play sports recieve.
Should men and women compete against each other in sport? In today’s modern society it is accepted that gender equality is aspired to in all areas of life. It is agreed that women should be paid the same wage as men, given the same job opportunities and have the same laws applied to them.
I do believe that they should be able to be on the same team without the feeling of others disapproving of their choice. With that being said, I think we should make sports more open to both genders. Such as making a boys and girls volleyball team or a football team that allows both boys and girls to join. I know a change like that may not happen for a while, but why not start trying
