Hayleigh Franklin Mrs. Korando American Literature 18 March 2024 Should Huck Finn be Taught at Trico The story Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should be taught at Trico for years to come. The story offers many valuable lessons that students need to learn. One lesson that could be taught is that you should never judge someone by the way they look. Many people were slaves and because they looked different they were treated as objects. Huck saw this and learned that Jim, like other slaves, could feel and feel the same as white folks. Mark Twain writes, "...he was so grateful, and said I was the best friend old Jim ever had in the world, and the only one he's got now..." (Twain 204-205). Another lesson that is taught is how important education is. Jim states, "Well, I 'uz gwyne to spend it, but I had a dream, en de dream tole me to give it to a ***** name' Balum-Balum's Ass dey call him for short; he's one er dem chuckleheads, you know" (Twain 54). This shows that since Jim was a slave, he never got an education. Since Mark Twain wrote the way he talked, readers can understand the difference between Jim and Huck. Huck, a young boy who had a small education, and Jim, who didn't have any education. While reading it's harder to understand what Jim is talking about because of the way his works mix together and he pronounces them incorrectly. This relates to today because there are many kids who don't care or try in school, but they don't realize how lucky they are to be forced into education.
