"I believe that Huckleberry Finn is one of the great masterpieces of the world..." a quote from H. L. Mencken. Many people believe Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools, but then on the other hand many believe it shouldn’t for its vulgar language. A handful of people are offended by this book, they complain and say it’s not appropriate for high school students (Powell, Fight over Huck Finn). When the students have heard more explicit language than what is used in the book. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a wonderful tool for education because it shows many life lessons through the characters of Jim the slave, the Duke and the Dauphin, and Miss Watson and Widow Douglas. These two character are supposed to be the “bad guys”, they steal from people and do many other things that are a sign of evil. The life lesson that is trying to be taught here is it is not tolerable to commit crimes. In the book the Duke and the Dauphin pretend they are someone who they aren’t, they try to steal inheritance from a dead family member who isn’t even their own family. Once they get caught they are tarred and feathered by the townspeople . It is not respectful to commit crimes and try to get away with it, people who think it’s perfectly fine to live in sin should have a punishment. It is wrong and rotten to try to hurt or harm someone or something. This is an important life lesson because many kids thinks it’s fine to go steal and destroy personal belongings. This life lesson is important because of today's society, kids think it is beyond cool to go break things, steal, treat people like they are nothing, and do things that aren’t correct. Teachers normally know what is best for their students.. Students know a lot more than you think they do. Kids probably know more than what their parents think they know, kids are exposed to a lot of different language in high school than normal. Teenagers have internet, cell phones, ipads, and a lot more than their parents did when they were young. Young people don’t realize how good their life is now days that they have. Students need to realize how different life was back in the 1830s, life was tough and all people faced some type of issues throughout their lives. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools for presenting many different types of life
