Should LGBT Characters Be More Common In Mainstream TV Shows?

If you were asked to think about any LGBT charaters on popular tv shows would your thoughts go to the stereotypically “gay best friend” or perhaps even characters which were killed off? My argument today is about why LGBT characters should be more common in mainstream television shows.
When LGBT characters are introduced on popular teen mainstream television shows such as the 100, Pretty Little Liars and the vampire diaries, the characters are more often than not killed off. This has become a huge problem, as some characters don’t even last a full season before being killed off. Some television company’s state that the reason for the lack of main LGBT charterers is for the reason that they are worried that, a lesbian lead for example, would distract the viewership of a male audience. However, this does not stop tv shows such as the Netflix series Riverdale for example, to queer bait their audiences. Before Riverdale was released many of the promotional trailers showed two of the main female characters kissing. This of course attracted the viewership of an lgbt audience who were excited to see the visibility of characters on a teen show. However once the show actually aired there was a kiss which was done for basically no reason other than one of the characters trying to show that she was adventurous and wasn’t as boring as the other girls during cheerleading tryouts. After that, both girls ended up having relationships with boys on the show and the kiss was never bought up again. There are countless other examples of queerbaiting through promotional trailers for upcoming tv shows.
