Many people argue over whether if liberal arts should be used in education or if vocational studies are better to get a head start on a future. Most schools use a liberal studies program, which allows the student to experience all types of subjects and understand each one in a better way. Vocational studies are when a student is just studying one or two subjects and focuses in on that path of education. Vocational studies carry a risk of committing yourself to a study and realizing its wrong when it is too late. For example, if a student knows for sure that he wants to focus on a major and maybe already had experience with the work, then the student should consider vocational education. This can save them money and lets them not have to worry about subjects that they might not need in the future. Redd Says, “Maybe you love learning and want to become a full-time scholar. Or maybe, like the majority of people, you mostly want to secure a career that you enjoy, that pays well, and that makes it possible to create a comfortable life” (Redd). Redd explains that if someone really loves something, then they should learn it through vocational education if they know that that’s what they want to pursue. Vocational education might not just be good for college, it can be helpful in high school too. Some students just know they are not going to use some of the subjects in the future and are very uninterested. Tzo states, “What benefits men he will carry out; what does not benefit men he will leave alone” (Tzu, page 237). Vocational education is when someone knows what, they want to do in the future, and that person is going to use skills which will help him succeed and eliminate the things that are irrelevant for that person.
