Eryka “Old myths, old Gods, old heroes have never died. They are only sleeping at the bottom of our mind, waiting for our call. We have a need for them. They represent the wisdom of our race.” Stanley Kunitz said this to explain our need for the subject of myth. Mythology should be taught in school because it is in all subjects, applies in real life, teaches morals, and is within all religions. Mythology is important within the school system due to the fact that it combines many subjects into one subject (“Why”). Being able to learn multiple subjects all at one time would for one, would make it interesting to learn that subject since it is not just boring facts decanted into the students laps, and expect them to understand right then and …show more content…

Having history taught to them makes students learn about mythology even if it was not intended. When students are in world history they learn about the great Ancients in the world and by learning about them they have to take a peek into the mythology and beliefs of those Ancients. There were the Chinese Dynasty and their great gods, and the Egyptians and their anthropomorphic gods. When looking away from the more historical side of the subjects and taking a gander at the scientific side of subjects there definitely is parts of mythology within the subject (Fox). Mythology even pops up in chemistry, looking at the the elements a few of them are named after gods and titaness; Selenium was named after the Greek goddess of the moon, Neptunium and Plutonium were named after the Roman god’s Neptune and Pluto, the gods of the sea and dead. Then while looking in the psychology aspect one can use the stories that are told in the myths (“Mythology”). In psychology they use mythological stories to give people hope. Most of all the stories within mythology has some some great tragedy, but hearing those struggles could help people to carry on just because those great heroes had the strength to carry on, and like the struggling person the heroes are human. The allusions one sees everyday can be used later in life due to the fact that the higher the education the more it is obvious mythology takes place in the studies
