Should Parents Allow their Children to Play Football? Football is America’s sport, almost everyone in the country knows and loves the sport. Would as many people love the sport if they were informed about the risks associated with it? Many people allow their children to take part in tackle football to obtain exercise. What parents need to know is that they are also exposing their children to the chance of serious injury and CTE. According to recent studies done by credible resources, it’s now evidential that football is not worth the risk.
Allowing children to play football will cause them to take repeated collisions including collisions to the head. This could cause them a number of injuries that might be life threatening. Many NFL players have recently retired for fear of injury. An article by Roxanne Jones of CNN states, “It 's important that parents listen closely to NFLers like 24-year-old Chris Borland, the San Francisco 49ers linebacker who retired this week after just one season. Borland said he quit because he was afraid of brain injuries.” This shows that even professional players who get paid millions of dollars to play are realizing that partaking in football is a bad decision and they should not continue. Some parents believe that by allowing their children to play football they are opening up their children up to skills they could use in the future. Truthfully they may be losing more than they’re gaining. Also, In Roxanne Jones’s article she states, “The question we have to answer is when we knowingly and willfully allow a child to play high-impact contact sports, are we endangering that child?” It may seem that there is no downside to football because all it’s an opportunity for children to be active but it is not worth the risks it comes
