Imagine you are at your desk at school doing your schoolwork. While you’re sitting there your furry little pet is sitting in your lap. Even if you don’t have a pet you could be petting your friends pet. Wouldn’t this be great if it were true? Pets should be allowed in school and as classroom pets because, they can show affection towards students to help student’s education, it could make students feel more at home, and students wouldn't be so stressed all the time. First off, having pets can show affection towards students to help their education. As shown in the text,“The great thing about a dog being by other students, is that they can express affection, and that may be in short supply with a lot of these kids” (Hendrix). This quote shows that dogs can express affection at this private school in Chicago, Illinois to help students feel like they mean something. At this school teachers are allowed to bring their pets to school. Students should be able to do this as well. The Maryland University, says, “Home is where their pet is and then some other schools are starting to agree” (Crowe). Pets in schools can help students feel at home. For example, PETA kids say there could be health risks: “Not only is keeping a classroom “pet” dangerous for the animals, it’s also a risk for students and teachers”(PETA Kids). Although some of these animals could be service dogs too. At the school where teachers can bring their pets the author stated, “To the pet lovers who take their animals to school, all dogs are therapy dogs”(Hendrix). This quote shows that all dogs are not being abused and that all dogs are service dogs when being used the right way. This is the job that they have to do until they retire.
