Civil liberties and civil rights were guaranteed to all U.S citizens by the constitution. Therefore, people should be free to express themselves and their opinions in whatever way they see fit. For instance, if members of a public high school team wish to have the name of a fallen soldier on their jerseys, they should be able to do so. Assuming there was prior consent or if the soldier was a family member to one of the players, there should be no problem or concern of insensitivity from anyone in the field or media. If players believe that brandishing a soldier’s name on their jersey is their way of showing respect, then they should by all means be able to do it. They do not wish to cause controversy, but rather show their respect to their soldiers and country in a proud and public fashion. Official military bases and recruiting stations should by all means be suitably defended not only from the outside, but also the inside. For instance, the shooting that occurred at a military base in Washington could have been prevented if the soldiers inside were able to carry their weapons on the site. If soldiers were able to carry their weapons on base, then any offensive attack that may occur within the base’s limits could easily be put to a stop.
