Should Standardized Testing Be Utilized in the College Admission Process
"Whether it's a 2 or 4 year college, trade, technical or vocational training- some form of learning beyond high school must be the goal of every student," said education secretary Arne Duncan (ic.galegroup.com) College admission is very competitive, and is cutting students long term goals early. Standardized testing, such as the SATs and the ACTs have an effect on students' college admission. The scores of these tests can have a negative effect on students admission to colleges. Colleges should not use standardized testing scores as a factor in college admission, due to their questionable validity and the debate on whether or not a single nationwide test should determine a student's future.

A student can be denied a college education due to how they score on the SATs (Ic.galegroup.com). 69% of the public said that a single nationwide test should not determine the education a student receives (ic.galegroup.com). A man who studied more than 50 sample SAT essays, Les Perelman, MIT university’s director of undergraduate writing, said "he believes the new section does not allow time for students to plan and revise their essays and is therefore not a realistic test of their writing ability" (elibrary.com). Perelman also included that "he was also concerned that the College Board, the New York City-based organization that sponsors the SAT, advises scorers to overlook factual errors in essays" (elibrary.com).
