Should students be allowed technological devices in the classroom?

In this era of innovativeness and short attention spans how do we keep students committed to education? By seeing what students today are most hooked onto; technology, of course! The impact technology has on our society is great and is growing more and more prevalent day by day. Technology dominates many aspects of our daily lives, one of them being our education. While many educational institutions are accepting and even teaching their students how to affiliate themselves with personal technological devices and embrace them in a beneficial manner, others are trying to regulate the usage of these devices in classrooms. …show more content…

In fact, according to the 2013 study by the ECAR (Educause Center for Analysis and Research) “ 6% of students didn’t use a single eBook even though about 50% of students have said both that they wished their instructors used them more and that they are important to their academic success” (Mareco). Integrating a tech savvy environment in schools makes students more apt to want to involve and engage themselves in the learning system because the usage of technology is like second nature to the millennial generation. In colleges and universities, many teachers post powerpoint slides online to give students a chance to go over the topics that will be discussed in future classes and to prepare any questions they may have about to information in the slides. Furthermore, according to a tech writer, Drew Hendricks, studies shown in a book called “Teaching with Technology: Creating Student-Centered Classrooms”, which is a book that contains 10 years worth of data collected from the Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) project which is a team of tech researchers that examined the results the usage of technology had on learning environments within universities and public schools, “technology rich classroom is the perfect place for that level of specialized learning. When teachers and students are trained to use the technology, there are many tools to help track growth, give extra resources, and accelerate learning based on each student’s unique pace”
