Should Surfing be in the Olympics? Surfing in the Olympics has been a hot topic for the past two decades. In the Olympics, everybody has an equal playing field. This begs the question: “Should surfing be in the Olympics?” The debate with surfing is that the ocean does not give competitors an equal playing field. The ocean does not give an equal playing field because humans are going against mother nature. Also, the ocean is not in an enclosed space like a swimming pool so it is not controlled by human factors.The ocean is very unpredictable, so that is what makes it unequal compared to land sports. Since the ocean is not controlled by human factors, artificial wave technology has been in the works for a while. The use of artificial wave technology gives competitors an equal playing field. Each wave from this machine is identical. This makes it equal as opposed to the ocean which can be very unpredictable and not manipulative.
