Who do parents entrust their kids to be taught morals, functional life skills, knowledge, manners and many other life teachings? Teachers! So why would teachers not have one of the highest pay rates of all jobs? Teaching is often a misunderstood profession. People don't see all the behind-the-classroom work of being a teacher. Many people only see a person that stands in front of the class and lectures, grades tests and an enforcer of school rules. Teaching involves much more than that. Being a son of an high school math teacher, I know more about the effects involving teachers pay than many people. I say teachers need to be paid more! If someone decides to be a teacher then they might have to get second jobs because teaching alone does not pay the bills. My mom is a high school math teacher and works part-time as a waitress at a top-rated restaurant, called The Turquoise Room. Last year my mom had about a salary of $38,000 being a teacher, while working part-time at The Turquoise Room, my mom made about $26,000 with an average of 17 hours a week. My mom can make more in tips during some months than being a teacher. How is that acceptable? One of her co-workers at The Turquoise Room made $43,000, but she works full-time at The Turquoise Room and works less than 30 hours a week. So her co-worker made $5,000 more than my mom did teaching. I personally know this co-worker and she never attended college. How can someone without a degree make more money than someone who does have a degree? That is just
