There have been many security measures done in schools to make them safer. From keeping the doors locked, hiring security guards, to installing metal detectors, schools have made many precautions to keep their students as safe as possible. Having teachers carry guns has been a newer idea to solving school shootings and it has brought up a lot of negative talk amongst Americans. Having teachers carry guns is not an effective way to protect schools because it negatively affects the teachers, parents, and the students. Arming teachers is not the answer to this issue because not all teachers will want to carry a gun and they will not have the skills to, which will prevent them from being the best teacher they can be, and arming teachers will also cost a ton of money, causing the …show more content…

Gene Hoffman, the Chairman of the Calguns Foundation, a nonprofit that seeks to protect the rights of individuals to own, and lawfully use firearms in California, seems to disagree with arguing against guns in school. In an article by U.S. News, called “Teachers Should Be Allowed to Carry Guns”, Hoffman Says that, “It is our right to carry guns, and that the absence of them is not going away anytime soon, so we might as well arm good guys to protect us from the bad guys. With over 300,000,000 guns out there, so if someone wants to get their hands on a gun, making stronger laws won’t prevent them from wanting to do harm” (3). Hoffman makes some good points because guns are not going to go away anytime soon, and we need to figure out how were going to deal with them. Although, bringing more guns into public places, especially schools, is certainly not the best way to handle this issue. They are lacking to see the little to no training teachers will have with guns, which is just asking for trouble if a situation were to come
