Should The Big Bang Make Matter And Antimatter?

926 Words4 Pages

In particle physics, antimatter is composed of antiparticles, which have the same mass as particles of ordinary particles but have opposite charge and other particle properties such as lepton and bayron number. According to the physics of the universe, the Big Bang should have produced matter and antimatter in equal quantities. The apparent asymmetry of matter and antimatter in the visible universe is one of the greatest unsolved problems in physics. The first known existence of antimatter was discovered in 1928 by British physicist Paul Dirac. Scientist Albert Einstein, we know had a famous equation known as E=mc^2. Paul Dirac realized that Einstein did not account for the fact that mass could have a positive or negative charge. Thus Paul …show more content…

Matter-antimatter propulsion will be the most efficient because one hundred percent of the mass of the matter and antimatter is converted into energy. The energy released from this is ten billion times the amount chemical energy such as hydrogen and oxygen combustion could form. A Matter- antimatter spacecraft would have the power to take a trip to mars in one month. The average time today is eleven months. Matter- antimatter energy has the power to take spaceships through the universe at warp speeds. With matter- antimatter humans now have the power to explore what could only have been dreamed of. This would make trips to Jupiter and farther beyond a reality. We are still decades away from establishing these accomplishments, but someday man will achieve this and travel the universe at warp speeds. Another even more possible use for antimatter propulsion combines fission. The main problem with antimatter engines is both size and feasibility. Several tons of antimatter would be required to complete such a job on antimatter alone. We know that to create two picograms would take a year, so the amount needed to create one of these engines today would take hundreds of years. Another problem with antimatter is getting ahold of it. This is very significant because antimatter annihilates when it comes in contact with matter. Scientists are hoping that with this discovery they can solve the mega mysteries of nature and the
