The Soviet Union was once the most powerful country on Earth and I believe that textbooks should emphasize their amazing accomplishments they had when they were at their prime. The Soviet Union arose after the Russian Revolution and even though it only lasted until 1991 a total of 69 years they had many amazing accomplishments. The only key term that needs to be defined to answer this question is the word emphasize which Merriam Webster defines to be “give special importance to something in speaking or writing.” You can see how successful the Soviet Union was and I believe that textbooks should emphasize these three topics which are Stalin’s Great Terror, Military, and their Soviet elections.
I believe that Soviet Elections should be emphasized in textbook because it show us how their government worked and what their political views were. Document D shows us how scared the two Soviets leaders, which were Joseph Stalin and Nikita Khrushchev that the citizens would be able to determine who their new leader was going to be. In Document C Roy Medvedev wrote on how The Great Terror was and he describes it by saying “The most cruel tortures, interrogations, and the fearful abuse of human dignity.” He also claims that “If it was necessary to cut you to pieces,they would cut you into pieces.” Later on Richard Pipes tells us how many victims NKVD detained and how many were shot and killed. 1,548,366 were detained and 681,692 were shot and killed. If this isn’t important in the Soviet Union's timeline, then I don’t know what is because this Great Terror Stalin created was a massacre and seemed unreal if you heard it in person. This should be greatly emphasized in textbooks because it's valuable to the Soviet Union's
