Torture was used by the Roman Empire in order for them to extract information and testimonies from criminals. In more modern times, Britain used it against secessionist movements in Northern Ireland. Vietnamese soldiers used torture on POW’s during the war to receive information about the United States military. Torture is a useful method for national security to combat extreme situations and receive information to save lives. Occasionally torture is needed in order to save the lives of thousands. Sadly, there are groups of people who feel entirely justified to blow up a bus full of innocent civilians that include children and mothers just to prove a political point. These advanced interrogation methods are sometimes needed as a way to get information from a non cooperative person. A quote by W.E. There are environments in the world such as the Middle East where sometimes extreme measures are called for to prevent extreme consequences. With all this said, there should also be guidelines in order to to keep this method in check and so that only qualified individuals with clearance are allowed to carry out such interrogation methods. Therefore torture should be allowed and only allowed when the subject refuses to answer questions that follow the Geneva Convention’s guidelines which are defined as a,”series of treaties signed (1864–1949) in Geneva, Switzerland, providing for humane treatment of
