Music has played a crucial part in the development of the culture in the United States. Whether it be rap or pop music, one may often notice the impact that it has on our lives. The diversity that we find in the music of the 21st century has been influential to all different kinds of people. It doesn’t matter if you’re 5 or 91, black or white, gay or straight; there will always be a type of music that touches our souls, or that says what we’re too afraid to say. In the United States, the diversity of music and musical artists allows for us to connect with others who have the same likes and to understand, to a point, the fact that there will be plenty of people who don’t like what you like. Many artists these day focus on what values or materialistic items they like right now. I often find music that lacks meaning and soul behind it, where artists are often just focusing on money, sex, and fame. The meaning behind songs just are not what they used to be. Back in the day when the Beatles where performing they had songs about meeting a nice girl and holding her hand, or being in love with the person she was. Now we have songs, like Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, where we aren’t sure what the real meaning of it is because she portrays it to be all about having a big butt of being able to shake it for attention. I have looked at a lot of articles trying to decipher the meaning behind one of the most popular songs of 2014. From what it sounds like, Minaj says that the song is all about how girls act around each other. I may have missed the full meaning of the lyrics and that’s why the music culture we live in, isn’t what it used to be and that’s not a good
