Eva Grantham Mrs. King ELA 6th Hour April 11, 2017 The Birth of a New Law The hippie era is now over and it’s the time for new things to prosper. It’s a new year, new me, and new laws. A widely asked question is “should weed be legal?” Or “should weed remain illegal?” Weed, also known as marijuana, should be legal for many reasons as more americans want the law to be passed and for health benefits towards many American citizens. There are many reasons that weed should be legalized, the first reason is the population. What i mean by this is the the majority of the population want this to become legalized. Pew research center said “Today 57% want it to be legal while only 37% want it to be illegal. While a decade ago 32% wants to have it legalized and 60% wanted it to be illegal.” (pew research center) Today most people want it to be legal because it will not cause so many fights. One reason people may say that is because “it can be very addictive for some people: ( Dr. Drew Pinsky). Yes, it may be addictive for some but it is not an addiction that can kill you because a fact is it is less harmful than any other drug out there. Also tobacco is more dangerous and more addictive but yet it is still legal. Another reason why some people want it to stay illegal is because ‘’ it could be dangerous for your mind” (adobe). But a fact is, said many scientists around the world, is that “it actually helps you be more creative and calms you.” For a third reason said Dave Anderson “weed should remain illegal because it is very dangerous for AIDS patients.” (Dave Anderson) In spite of this fact if you are an AIDS patient then it would be common sense to not use weed at all and if you don't know if you are or not then go get it checked out by a doctor to stay in the
