We should participate in the “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because being on your phone too much can be dangerous, it can taint relationships with people around you, and it can have a negative effect on learning. One reason we should participate in Shut Down Your Screen Week is because screens can be dangerous. A CNN article “Teens spend 9 hours a day on media” states that all throughout North America teengers spend an average 6-9 hours on media. This can affect schoolwork and real life relationships with your family and friends. The article “Attached to Technology and Paying a Price” it says that scientists have found that juggling emails, phone calls, and other information can change people’s thoughts and behavior. In the article “ No vacations” the Campbell family went on a trip to carmel. What was supposed to be a no screens vacation turned into an electronic-filled vacation. Instead of going out to dinner the first night, everyone stayed home and played on their phones. Mrs. Campbell would try to bring her family to do fun activities but Mr. Campbell would step away and send emails and later that day, spent his time playing video games. The next day they all went to the beach and instead of using their phones they spent time with one another and all had a good time. Mr Nass at Stanford believes that technology limits how much people engage with each other, even in the same room. When kids hangout these days, they mostly just spend time on their phone instead of talking to each other.
