Objectives As a strategy for reducing relapses of marijuana abuse rates within teens discharged from the SickKids Hospital Substance Abuse inpatient program, patients will partake in an outpatient program which will focus on shifting their believes and attitudes surrounding marijuana. Within the duration of 12 weeks of running an evening closed outpatient Marijuana Abuse program twice a week, 12 patients will build a supportive community among each other and learn strategies on how to live a healthy drug-free life style. When compared to patients who don't partake an outpatient program there will be a statistically significant reduction in the use of marijuana as well as a positive change within their behaviour emotionally. It has been known that the more an individual understands the risks, the less likely they are to engage in the behaviour. There are many risks that are involved with cannabis and some are extremely important for adolescents to be aware of and that knowledge can help the decision about their marijuana use. Recovering from an addiction to marijuana is a process and for some individuals, it may take multiple relapses before an individual can achieve long-term abstinence. Relapses can happen due to stress, or the environment the individual is in. This program is created to prevent relapses from happening, by achieving this goal the program will focus on the Motivation Enhancement Therapy which is a counselling approach that helps individuals resolve their hesitancy about treatment and stop their drug use. This approach aims for motivated change rather than guide individuals stepwise through the recovery process, which does not work well with some individuals. Along with this therapy, this program will use the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is another counselling approach that will help teach individuals how to change their over use of Marijuana by changing their thought process.
