According to Kierkegaard, everyone suffers from the eternal condition of despair and the only way to cure this condition is through a strong faith in God. In Kierkegaard’s Sickness unto Death, he explains the condition of despair as a sickness that plaques people until they die and he adds that it is a sin for a person to remain in despair because it is possible to fix it with faith. Kierkegaard claims that despair is an internal problem through which people suffer, even though it may seem to be brought upon by external factors. He continues by explaining that despair is a state of deep unhappiness, dissatisfaction, and frustration.
