It was obtained by TJX Companies in the year 2012. The original base had 500 square feet (46 m2) of office space. The existing locations have more than 500,000 square feet (50,000 m2) of operating space. The business has three guiding principles targeted at providing most favorable customer service, keeping low operating rates to keep customer savings elevated, and "treat others as we would want to be treated". On January 12, 2009, throughout the financial crisis, Sierra Trading Post laid off about 130 employees at the retail and outlet store and fulfillment center in Cheyenne, a first in the company's history.
