Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) written by Stevie Wonder was released in August of 1970. In the year of its release, Signed, Sealed, Delivered recorded third place on the Hot 100 and maintained its position for six weeks. This musical masterpiece is a perfect example of a light song as it is categorised into rhythm and blues. Whilst the bass guitar plays a syncopated riff alternating at different pitches, the drums ensure a stable backbeat by hitting the high hat on every quaver. Also, the trombones brassy slides penetrate through the dense layers, contributing to the complex texture of the piece. The depth and fullness intertwined throughout the use of different instruments, highlights the complexity of Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Stevie Wonder has successfully manipulated the texture to create an energetic and rhythmic masterpiece. Pitch is also displayed widely in the song as it represents the harmony, melody and tonality. Signed, Sealed, Delivered presents three back-up vocalists, and a main vocalist as they create a harmonious and lyrical tune which is energetically demonstrated throughout the entire song. Additionally, the main vocalist beautifully decorates the melody with extra notes as they use an emphasised falsetto voice on the high f, and improvisation throughout the piece. The use of this melismatic tone not only represents the complexity of the layers, but also the authenticity and purity through improvisation. On the same note, the back-up vocalists imitate and double the main vocalist by repeating lines of the song, as well as including “ooh” at points in the chorus and
