Signposts Contributing To Mars

Ever since the beginning of time people have wondered what it is like on the moon. Now that we know, we are venturing further to see what it is like on Mars, but first, we need to get there. In the article Opinion: NASA report shows it's no solo mission to put a human on Mars By Ellen R. Stofan, Project Syndicate, adapted by Newsela staff, many signposts support the main idea that sending humans to Mars will be a group effort that will not be easy and require plenty of innovation and patience. The sign posts that I have chosen all support this in their own individual ways. The first signpost that supports the main idea is when the author explains that “Tens of thousands of people from 15 countries have been involved in developing and operating …show more content…

If it was an easy task, it would not take nearly as many people. Another signpost that supports that getting to Mars will be a tedious group effort is when the author quotes one of John F. Kennedy’s famous speeches, and relates it to our current situation. “As President John F. Kennedy said in 1962, we don’t do things like putting a man on the moon ‘because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills.’” This quote strongly supports and illustrates the main idea because it is taking a well respected and well liked man's words, and relating them to our current situation. By doing this, the reader can now more clearly see the main idea, and now can understand further that sending humans to Mars will be as hard as, or harder, then the time when we had to send humans to the moon. My final piece of evidence that I found that supports the main idea is when the author included that “NASA has set the ambitious goal of sending humans to Mars by the mid-2030s.” This quote supports the main idea, because it leaves the reader knowing that this goal, it planning on being accomplished, even if it is not
